WHAT IS A SAMBALPURI SAREE?
The Sambalpuri Saree is a traditional handwoven saree from Western Odisha. It is renowned for its unique Ikat or Bandha technique, where threads are tie-dyed before weaving — creating stunning patterns directly on the loom, without any printing or embroidery.
Common motifs include:
• 🐚 Shankha (conch)
• 🌀 Chakra (wheel)
• 🌸 Phula (flowers)
Available in both cotton and silk, Sambalpuri sarees are perfect for everything from daily elegance to ceremonial grace. Known for their vibrant colors, intricate detailing, and deep cultural symbolism, they are more than garments — they are wearable art.
Wearing a Sambalpuri saree is not just about style — it’s about celebrating craftsmanship, culture, and pride. It is a true symbol of Odisha’s rich heritage.
FABRIC & WEAVING
Handloom Craftsmanship
Each saree is woven on traditional handlooms using cotton or silk, and can take days or even weeks to complete, depending on the complexity of the design.
Ikat Technique
This intricate method involves tie-dyeing the threads before weaving, giving the fabric its signature soft-edged, flowing patterns. The process requires exceptional skill and precision, making every piece truly one of a kind.
Patterns & Motifs
Sambalpuri sarees often feature:
• Geometric shapes
• Floral designs
• Sacred symbols such as the Pankha (fan), Sankha (conch), and Chakra (wheel) — many of which are linked to Lord Jagannath.
The Vision Behind Ranganica
“Ranganica was born out of reverence — for our weavers, for Odisha’s soul, and for the timeless artistry woven into every thread. I didn’t want to build just another fashion brand; I wanted to preserve a legacy. Every saree we create carries a story of tradition, dignity, and quiet luxury — meant not just to be worn, but to be remembered.”
— Aman Singhal, Founder of Ranganica
THE LEGACY OF ODISHA TEXTILES
For centuries, Odisha has been the heart of some of India’s most exquisite weaves — from the regal Bomkai to the vibrant Sambalpuri. Each saree carries with it generations of artistry, rooted in spiritual symbolism, temple traditions, and folk storytelling.
These are not just textiles. They are living expressions of culture.
At Ranganica, we honor and preserve this legacy through contemporary design and ethical craftsmanship.
Meet the Hands Behind Ranganica
Behind every Ranganica saree is a skilled artisan — often part of a generational weaving family — who breathes life into each piece using techniques passed down over hundreds of years.
Our weavers, primarily based in villages across Western and Coastal Odisha, are the soul of our brand. We work closely with them to ensure:
• Fair wages
• Dignity in craftsmanship
• Preservation of traditional knowledge
